An important function and role for ITFSP is to seek government-to-government commitments to support practical mechanisms for cooperation, and to establish strategic linkages with existing and new funding mechanisms. The Task Force does not provide programme funding as such but will ask governments and other institutions to direct their resources into projects and activities which it has identified as priorities. The United Nations' Development and Environment Programmes have expressed their willingness to work closely with the ITFSP to identify opportunities for co-programming projects via the Global Environment Facility (GEF), which could release resources for participation by developing countries. |
